Unleash The Pugs

Join the pug fun at the PugHearts of Houston 5K Run and 1 Mile Pug Crawl and fundraiser at West Alabama Ice House. Pugs, pug owners and pug lovers are invited to start their paws and run (or crawl) for Houston pugs. As pugs and people cross the finish line, the pug-friendly group will congregate at West Alabama Ice House for a party benefitting PugHearts of Houston. Bark up the right tree and bring your pug to play and meet the new PugHearts foster pugs. The four-legged friendly fundraiser will feature tunes by "Snit's Dog & Pony Show Acoustic", a face painter, hot dogs a plethora of West Alabama Ice House beer and wine for purchase.

PugHearts of Houston is a non-profit save and rescue organization dedicated to giving unwanted and neglected Pugs a second chance. It is staffed by a network of volunteers in and around the greater Houston area.

Bold, Big and Bright - American Pop Art

Join us tomorrow, April 22 from 6-8pm at Vaughan Christopher Gallery for an American Pop Art retrospective.

Vaughan Christopher Gallery presents a pop art retrospective celebrating American Pop Art featuring Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring and Steve Kaufman. Showcasing works from the beginning of the pop era though modern day neo pop, the pieces are bold, big, bright and colorful. Warhol works featured include Bald Eagle, Tomato Soup Can, John Wayne and Marilyn, among others. Also featured are the Bull Profile series and the Whaam! print by Lichtenstein, Kaufman’s Superman works and Haring’s works from the 1980s. Vaughan Christopher Gallery Spring art exhibition is on view through May 15.

As Heroes for Children (HFC), a Texas-based organization that provides financial and social assistance to families with a child battling cancer, prepares for its 3rd Annual Heroes & Handbags fundraiser at River Oaks Country Club on April 16, handbag designer Elaine Turner prepares a donation of handbags for auction along with a speech for the award she and her company will receive after years of contribution to the organization and its signature event.

Ms. Turner and Elaine Turner Designs have been chosen as the 2010 recipient of the “Spirit of Allie and Taylor Award” given annually by HFC in memory of Allie Scott and Taylor Brewton; HFC daughters who lost their battles with cancer at eight months and four years, and inspired the creation of the organization. Elaine Turner earns this recognition for her efforts to further the mission of HFC to make an immediate impact on the lives of families with a child battling cancer. Her contributions over the last five years to Heroes & Handbags has helped the event raise more than $750,000 and counting with this year’s event yet to come.
