Venue Paint Project Debuts Art Inspired by Houston's Streetscapes!
The downtown Houston skyline, the Rice walking trail; these are some of the iconic images captured in some of the nine paintings that will be on display at Venue, Houston's only luxury apartments starting tonight, January 13th and through February 11th, where they will be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting Art League Houston and Lawndale Art Center.
Grayco Partners and The Lionstone Group are proud to announce the development of Venue Museum District, a luxury apartment building situated in the heart of Houston’s vibrant arts community with easy access to the METROrail.
“Sitting in the heart of the Museum District, our newest luxury living development is a prime location to exhibit this public art projects. With its contemporary design fundamentals and lustrous elements, the Venue Museum District is a work of art in itself,” says Jeff Gray, President of Grayco Partners. “It is our goal to give back to the art community. By providing a new public work of art and giving the revenue generated from the auction to our neighbors at The Art League and Lawndale Art Center, we hope to continue to enhance Houston’s museum district.”
To celebrate the recent opening of its leasing center, the contemporary living space will inaugurate the Venue Paint Project, a public art display featuring nine prominent Houston painters and their canvas-brushed interpretations of a Houston streetscape. The public art project will be displayed along Fannin for more than a month. On January 7, bidding for the 4X6 canvas streetscape paintings will begin with an online auction culminating at an event on February 11. This event will debut Venue as well as showcase the talented artists and their work.
While being spearheaded by Houston artist Kermit Eisenhut, the paintings from the nine artists will be displayed alongside the perimeter of the development on Fannin beginning January 13. The following artists are participating in the project:
• Kermit Eisenhurt – An artist, teacher, philanthropist and community leader, he is known for his acrylic paintings featuring playful characters and realistic animal portraits. His work can be found on everything from canvas and greeting cards to furniture and fiberglass cows.
• Salli Babbitt – Steeped in abstract expressionist tradition, she relies on depth of color, layering of paint and intuitive gestures to produce interactive abstract paintings.
• Ruben Coy –Illustrating the mysterious beauty of the earth, he uses a technique of oil over acrylic on canvas. He has taught painting and drawing at the Houston Art League for 14 years.
• Richard E. Fluhr – Houston artist and Board Member of Bayou City Arts Festival, his colorful paintings capture first-hand images that have made strong impressions on him such as watching the soprano Maria Callas perform and the ruins of September 11.
• Jerrie Gast – A local watercolor painter and President of Watercolor Arts Society of Houston, her subdued watercolors have been exhibited in the US and abroad.
• Liz Conces Spencer – She is a local artist who paints color field, landscape and figurative abstractions in a variety of media. Her work has been exhibited extensively in galleries, alternative spaces, festivals and competitive competitions.
• Suzzanne E. Sellers – Utilizing mixed media, including paper, canvas, wall and clay, her art is predominately figurative with an emphasis on strong image, shape and color.
• Tra Slaughter – A self-taught artist who works in a mixed media style and calls her work "Assemblage" art.
• Wendy Wagner – Working in painting, ceramics and animation, curiosity and storytelling are her motivations for producing art. She was awarded the Hunting Art Prize in 2008.
